Fiery Wreck in Orange County Leaves One Dead
ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently investigating a tragic accident that occurred in Orange County on Wednesday evening, resulting in one fatality.

The incident took place on December 13, 2023, around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Nan Drive and State Highway 62.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck, towing a trailer, was traveling north on SH62, followed by a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck.
As the Chevrolet Z71 slowed down to make a left turn onto Nan Drive, it was struck from behind by the Chevrolet 2500. The impact caused the Chevrolet 2500 to catch fire, as reported by the DPS.
The driver of the Chevrolet Z71, a 54-year-old individual identified as Edwin Laughlin from Orange, Texas, fortunately escaped without any injuries.

Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet 2500 was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Hershel Stagner. At this time, the identity of the deceased driver has not been released.
DPS has issued a news release regarding the incident, stating, “This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.”
