Fatal Accident in Harwood, Maryland Leaves One Dead and Multiple Injured

HARWOOD, Md. – On December 13, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Solomons Island Road and Owensville Sudley Road in Harwood, Maryland. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of one life and caused severe injuries to several others.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the collision involved two vehicles, namely a 2019 Ford Escape and a 2013 Ford Fiesta. Based on the initial findings of the ongoing investigation, it appears that the Ford Escape, which was traveling southbound on Solomons Island Road, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the northbound Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta has been identified as 68-year-old Stephen Lee Horodyski, a resident of Edgewater. Tragically, Horodyski succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Another occupant of the Ford Fiesta, identified as 66-year-old Sara Louise Winter from Gambrills, sustained life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

The driver of the Ford Escape, 32-year-old Anthony Michael Filippelli from Edgewater, also suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is actively investigating this fatal collision, working diligently to determine the factors that led to this devastating incident.
