A suspect has been charged in the tragic shooting death of a 61-year-old man found slain inside his residence near the serene Warrior River.

Shane Levi Ashby, aged 61, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the untimely demise of Jeff Richard Herbinger.

The incident occurred on December 6 when the Walker County sheriff’s deputies responded to a distress call at a residence situated in the tranquil Adger/Hueytown area, close to the Jefferson County line. The victim, Jeff Richard Herbinger, resided in the 300 block of Cardinal Circle, where the unfortunate incident took place.

Upon arrival, the deputies discovered the lifeless body of Herbinger. The charging documents filed against Ashby state that he employed a .22-caliber handgun to fatally shoot Herbinger sometime between December 4 and December 6.

As of now, no motive has been disclosed by the authorities, leaving the community in shock and searching for answers.

After thorough investigation, Ashby was identified as a prime suspect in the case. In the early hours of Wednesday, law enforcement officials apprehended Ashby in Pleasant Grove.

Ashby is currently being held without bond at the Walker County Jail and is scheduled for a hearing on December 25.
