Lone Tusker Kills Farmer in Dhenkanal District

Angul: A solitary tusker, separated from its herd, brutally killed a 51-year-old farmer in Kurunti village in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Abhay Mohanty, met a tragic end when the tusker attacked him near the bank of the Brahmani river where he had gone for some work.

The incident took place when Mohanty encountered the tusker, which suddenly appeared in front of him. The tusker mercilessly trampled the farmer to death. The body of Abhay Mohanty was discovered on Wednesday morning.

Sumit Kar, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhenkanal, confirmed the incident and stated that the process is underway to provide compensation to the deceased farmer’s family. Kar also mentioned that the tusker had crossed the river and entered the Meramandali side.
