ERODE: The district police in Erode have arrested the husband and in-laws of a 29-year-old woman in Kavindapadi for allegedly harassing and killing her for dowry. The accused have been identified as Y Madankumar (29) and his parents Yuvaraj (53) and Poongodi (51) of Chinniyampalayam.

According to the police, Poorani, the daughter of P Krishnamurthy from P Mettupalayam in Bhavani, fell in love with Madankumar and married him on June 1, 2022, against the wishes of her family. Despite belonging to the same caste, there were differences of opinion between the two families. On October 10, Krishnamurthy received news that Poorani had been admitted to Kavindapadi GH.

Upon reaching the hospital, doctors informed Krishnamurthy that Poorani had tragically passed away. The post-mortem report revealed that Poorani had been strangled to death. Distraught by the circumstances, Krishnamurthy lodged a complaint with the Kavindapadi police, alleging that his daughter had been harassed for dowry, despite both the husband and wife working in the IT sector in Bengaluru.

Following the registration of the case, Madankumar and his parents went into hiding. However, on Tuesday evening, the police received information that they were located in Othakuthirai near Gobichettipalayam. Acting swiftly, the police apprehended the accused. During the investigation, it was revealed that Madankumar’s family had pressurized Poorani to obtain her share of the property from her father, but she had refused.
