Jeypore Resident Arrested for Kidnapping, Assault, and Extortion

A 21-year-old resident of Kunturkhal village in Jeypore, identified as Krushna Harijan, has been apprehended by the Jeypore Sadar police on charges of kidnapping, assaulting, and extorting money from a Bihar resident. The victim, Alok Kumar Paswan, 30 years old and a resident of Seikh Bahuara in Rohtas district, Bihar, was lured to Jeypore by individuals he had befriended online. Paswan arrived in Jeypore on September 17, 2023, only to fall victim to the criminals’ nefarious intentions.

According to Paswan’s complaint, upon his arrival at Jeypore railway station, he was abducted by two unidentified miscreants riding a bike. With the assistance of two others, they forcibly took him to a deserted location where they demanded a sum of Rs 2 lakh (approximately $2,700) as ransom. The criminals further coerced Paswan to transfer Rs 40,000 (around $540) through his PhonePe account. Subsequently, they subjected him to physical assault, pressurizing him to request an additional Rs 1.6 lakh (approximately $2,160) from his parents.

Fortunately, Paswan managed to escape from his captors with the help of locals in Kunturkhal village. On September 18, 2023, he filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Jeypore Sadar police station, detailing his harrowing ordeal. The authorities promptly acted on Paswan’s complaint, leading to the arrest of Krushna Harijan, who was subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The police are currently conducting further investigations to apprehend the remaining three individuals involved in the crime.
