The prime accused has been identified as Niwas Kumar, alias Funtoos, a native of Thubha village of Dhanarua block of Patna.

Anamika Kumari, also a resident of Dhanarua block, was shot dead when she was on her way to attend her coaching classes on the morning of December 11. After pumping two bullets in her head from a close range, Niwas had fled the spot. He, along with the other three accused — his brother Mukesh Kumar, besides Ranjeet Kumar and Prince Kumar — then went into hiding in Masaurhi.

City superintendent of police (east) Sandeep Singh said the murder was a fallout of a “one-sided love affair”. “During interrogation, Funtoos disclosed that he had been stalking the girl for a long time. Both of them attended coaching classes located in the same area. The girl, however, chose to avoid the stalker. But when she couldn’t any more and protested, the youth orchestrated the plan to kill her with the help of his brother,” he told media persons on Wednesday. “He came in contact with Ranjeet and Prince, who supplied him a pistol, the murder weapon. All of them have been booked under IPC sections 341, 323, 354, 302 and 34, arms Act and SC/ST Act. Prince, who has a criminal background, has already done a round of jail,” Singh added.

The police have recovered the countrymade pistol used in the crime, a live bullet, an empty cartridge, two mobile phones, two motorbikes, and Rs 17,000 cash from them.
