Authorities Identify Marjorie Vasquez as Victim in Fatal Goleta Pedestrian Collision

Authorities have released the identity of the woman who tragically lost her life on Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Goleta. The victim has been identified as Marjorie Vasquez, an 86-year-old resident of Goleta, according to Raquel Zick, the public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the 7300 block of Hollister Avenue, which is located west of Storke Road near Lowell Way. Law enforcement officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene following a report of a person down in the roadway median, as confirmed by Zick.

Upon arrival, Vasquez was found at the scene and was sadly pronounced dead. Zick provided this update regarding the driver involved in the collision, stating that the driver has been identified as Julie Chang from Santa Barbara. Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be contributing factors in the incident.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Accident Response Team is currently conducting an investigation into the collision to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution and remain alert while operating vehicles. Pedestrians, too, should always prioritize their safety by using designated crosswalks and remaining vigilant when walking near roadways.
