The incident unfolded on December 4 when officers received a report of shoplifting at the Victoria’s Secret store on Scenic Highway in unincorporated Snellville. The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Leta Davis from Athens, managed to flee the scene before the authorities arrived.

Determined to gather more information about Davis, an officer returned to the store two days later and waited for her. Their patience paid off when Davis returned to Victoria’s Secret on December 11. Although no theft occurred during her visit, Davis was seen entering a nearby Bath and Body Works shortly after leaving the store.

Surveillance footage revealed that Davis entered the Bath and Body Works carrying an empty tote bag. However, just five minutes later, she was seen exiting the store with the same tote bag filled with stolen merchandise. Quick action by the police led to a traffic stop, during which Davis was apprehended. Initially providing a false name, it was later discovered that Davis had outstanding warrants from Barrow, Cherokee, and Cobb counties for previous shoplifting charges and was on probation at the time of her arrest.

A search of Davis’ vehicle uncovered multiple trash bags filled with stolen items from both Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works. The total value of the recovered merchandise was estimated to be several thousand dollars. As a result, Davis was charged with theft by shoplifting, theft by receiving stolen property, providing a false name, and misdemeanor obstruction. She was subsequently booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.

In light of Davis’ arrest, Gwinnett County Police Department has pledged to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies in metro Atlanta and nearby retail stores to investigate the possibility of her involvement in additional crimes. The hope is that by connecting the dots, they can bring closure to other unsolved cases and bring justice to affected businesses.
