The police were initially called to a shopping center located in the 1900 block of N. State Street to retrieve a cell phone that had been found among the debris caused by a vehicle accident in the area. Following the trail of debris left behind by the vehicle, the officers were led from the front side of a Walmart on North State Street to the department store Bealls located at 1659 Melody Lane.

The debris found at the scene appeared to match the vehicles that were found between the Walmart and the surrounding parking lots, confirming the presence of an accident. One of the vehicles, a white 2003 Mercury, sustained heavy damage to its front end and was missing a back wheel. The other vehicle, a gray 2021 Jeep Cherokee, also showed signs of extensive damage.

Surprisingly, there were no occupants inside the vehicles when the police located them early Wednesday morning. Due to the early timeframe, the officers had to wait to review surveillance footage of businesses in the area to gather more information.

During their investigation, the police discovered that a protection order had been filed between the owners of the vehicles. Detectives were able to access surveillance footage that showed the victim in extreme danger. The urgency of the situation increased as the police realized the severity of the abduction.

Later that morning, the Hancock County 911 Center received a call from a man claiming that the victim had contacted him and asked him to send police to her home. The caller, who did not know the exact address, drove to the area and found it. He then called 911 to request police assistance at the victim’s residence located in the 2300 block of Collins Way.

When the responding officers arrived at the victim’s house, a woman opened the front door and provided her name. The victim, visibly shaken, informed the police that the abductor was still inside her house. The officers swiftly escorted the victim to safety and established a perimeter around the home to ensure her protection.

The tense situation came to a resolution when the abductor, identified as Akeenon Anton Lamar Hunt, surrendered to the officers without further incident. He was promptly taken into custody. Meanwhile, the victim was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment and to receive the necessary support.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the abduction, and charges against the suspect are pending. The Greenfield Police Department is commended for their quick response and successful rescue operation.
