Accident – Death – Obituary News : LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A fugitive wanted for criminal charges in Texas was apprehended in Las Vegas on December 8 after multiple high-speed attempts to evade capture, according to an arrest report. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers from the LVMPD Sex Offender Apprehension Program were assigned the task of locating and apprehending Edmon Herron, who was wanted on an extraditable warrant from Harris County, TX.

On November 30, LVMPD detectives discovered that the suspect was residing locally on the 400 block of Astillero St. Officers initiated a felony stop on the suspect’s vehicle, a white Mercedes with Tennessee license plates. However, Herron refused to comply and instead accelerated at high speeds over 100 MPH in an active school drop-off zone where families and children were present. Fearing for the safety of the public, the detectives made the decision not to pursue the suspect.

To continue their pursuit, plainclothes detectives conducted a surveillance and apprehension operation at the residence on Astillero around 8:40 a.m. that day. As soon as they arrived, they witnessed a white Mercedes with Tennessee plates exiting an open garage and speeding away. A police officer who happened to be nearby got a clear view of the driver, who bore a striking resemblance to the most recent booking and driver’s license photos of Herron. The investigators followed the suspect and observed him pulling into a nearby elementary school, where numerous children and adults were present, attempting to enter the school.

The suspect dropped off an unidentified juvenile, made a U-turn, and returned to the residence. The police were able to positively identify the suspect as Herron for the second time. When they attempted to stop him again, the suspect recklessly and aggressively sped out of the neighborhood. He ran a stop sign at high speed, within a school zone. Once again, the officers chose not to pursue him out of an abundance of caution.

Finally, on December 8, detectives located the suspect at a different residence on the 90 block of Gulf Pines Avenue. They observed him entering the driver’s seat of a black Mercedes with Nevada plates, accompanied by another individual who was later identified as the registered owner of the vehicle. Considering Herron’s previous attempts to flee, the police called in additional resources, including an air unit, a K9 unit, and more officers.

It’s worth noting that due to President Biden’s visit to Las Vegas that day, certain resources were unavailable. Nevertheless, the officers attempted a felony vehicle stop near E. Russell Rd. and Maryland Parkway. However, the suspect refused to comply and accelerated to a speed of 80 MPH. He then circled back to Maryland Parkway, cutting through a neighborhood, disregarding stop signs, and clearly endangering the public.

Due to heavy traffic flow in the area and the limited resources caused by the President’s presence, the detectives made the decision not to pursue the suspect. However, at approximately 2:12 p.m., police spotted a man who matched Herron’s description walking southbound near the intersection of Lincoln Road and E. Cartier Avenue. When they attempted to stop him, the suspect immediately fled on foot, cutting through backyards on the 2600 block of N. Gateway Road.

Finally, at 3:33 p.m., the police located Herron hiding inside a homemade shack. He was taken into custody without incident, and his identity was confirmed. It was determined that he would be extradited to Texas to face the charges against him.

During police questioning, Herron claimed to be a “family man,” but multiple high-speed pursuits indicated otherwise. The suspect even confessed to enjoying the thrill of driving the vehicle in question.

After requesting medical attention for an injured ankle, Herron was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He is now facing two counts of evading a police officer where the public was endangered and one count of obstructing a public official. His preliminary hearing in Clark County Justice Court is scheduled for December 27, and his bail has been set at $10,000..
