(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has successfully identified the driver responsible for a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in September, resulting in the untimely death of a bicyclist.

Arrest Warrant Obtained for Suspected Driver

On December 1, the CSPD obtained an arrest warrant for the suspected driver, 28-year-old Breanna Smith. Taking swift action, Smith voluntarily turned herself in to the authorities on December 2.

Charges Filed Against Breanna Smith

The CSPD has charged Smith with multiple offenses, including Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and Careless Driving Resulting in Death. These charges reflect the serious nature of the incident and the impact it has had on the victim’s family and the community.

According to the CSPD, the hit-and-run crash occurred on September 6 at approximately 10:45 p.m. The incident took place near the intersection of Astrozon Boulevard and Hancock Expressway. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim, 28-year-old Eduardo Ibanez-Charco, was traveling in the wrong direction in the northbound bike lane when a vehicle struck him. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Ibanez-Charco critically injured.
