Nakuru – Police in Nakuru county have launched investigations after an officer shot and killed a barmaid during a dispute over a KSh 16,000 bill at a nightclub.

Citizen Digital reported that Constable Nicholas Musau, based at Nakuru Central Police Station, shot dead a barmaid named Ann Maina at Vega Club around 2am on Wednesday, December 12. The incident resulted in three other people being injured, who are currently receiving treatment at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.

According to the police report, the altercation began when Musau refused to settle his KSh 16,000 bill for the drinks he had consumed. The argument escalated, leading to Musau opening fire and fatally injuring Ann Maina. The three other victims, two men and two women, sustained gunshot wounds before the officer fled the scene.

The authorities promptly arrested Nicholas Musau and detained him at Kaptebwa Police Station. During the arrest, a Jericho Pistol gun with two rounds of 9mm ammunition and six spent cartridges were seized as evidence.

“He picked a quarrel with the barmaids at the said bar over bills for the drinks he had taken. In the process, a fracas ensued, and the officer fatally injured the said barmaid, namely Ann Maina,” the police report stated.

Medical professionals revealed that one of the injured women had to undergo surgery, while the male victims were in stable condition. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to gather further evidence.
