The recent incident at the FedEx World Hub in Memphis, Tennessee, which resulted in the untimely death of an 86-year-old woman, has been identified as Verna Mae Jackson, according to the family’s attorney, Jeffrey Rosenblum. On November 29, while performing her duties during her shift, Jackson tragically lost her life. Reports from ABC 24 indicate that she was attempting to retrieve an envelope sticking out of a container on a truck that was preparing to leave when the accident occurred.

According to Rosenblum, the driver of the truck allegedly failed to adequately signal to Jackson, resulting in her unfortunate demise. “The safety measures that could have prevented this tragedy were not in place. This death could have been completely avoided,” Rosenblum expressed, as stated in ABC 24’s report.

Following the devastating incident, FedEx released a statement expressing their condolences and confirming that a thorough investigation into the accident was underway. The company’s statement read, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are grieving the loss of their loved one.”

In Memphis alone, FedEx provides employment to approximately 30,000 individuals. Sadly, this is not the first time accidents have occurred at the Memphis hub, as two employees lost their lives in separate incidents in 2022.
