PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A South Jersey porch pirate was apprehended on Monday after evading police and colliding with a Gloucester Township police officer. The suspect, identified as Ebony Gomez, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service in Monroe Township.

Gloucester Township Police reported that Gomez, 31, managed to escape from the police during a routine traffic stop and subsequently struck and injured a police officer. After her arrest, Gomez was handed over to the GTPD by the U.S. Marshal Service and later transported to the Camden County Jail.

The incident occurred when Gomez was caught on surveillance video stealing packages from various front porches in Gloucester Township at the beginning of December. Police officers, upon reviewing the footage, noticed a white Dodge Journey frequently visiting the houses where the packages had been delivered.

Gomez, the woman seen exiting the Dodge, approached the houses, pilfered the packages, and swiftly left the premises. When confronted by a resident, she deceitfully posed as a delivery driver who had made a mistake.

On December 8, police located the Dodge traveling on Jarvis Road in Sicklerville and conducted a motor vehicle stop. During this stop, officers discovered that the car’s license plate was reported stolen. To their shock, Gomez was found traveling with children in the car, none of whom were wearing seatbelts. In an attempt to evade arrest, Gomez sped away from the scene at a high rate of speed.

Shortly after, the police located the abandoned Dodge on Parsons Court. As officers approached the vehicle and commanded Gomez to surrender, she once again fled the scene. Unfortunately, this time, she struck and injured a Gloucester Township police officer with her car.

The injured officer was promptly transported to Cooper Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Gomez now faces multiple charges, including eluding the police, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault against law enforcement, and theft of movable property. According to GTPD, Gomez is a resident of Jacksonville, Florida.
