Recovery Fund Established for Injured Mount Pleasant Officer
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A recovery fund has been set up to support Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship, a Mount Pleasant officer who was injured in the line of duty. The incident occurred when Blankenship was in pursuit of a suspect and was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Hungry Neck Boulevard on Friday evening. He was immediately taken to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for treatment.

The extent of Blankenship’s injuries from the crash remains unclear, but officials at the Mount Pleasant Police Department have stated that he will require numerous medical procedures and surgeries during his recovery.
Supporting Officer Blankenship’s Recovery
In response to the incident, a fundraiser has been launched to aid in Officer Blankenship’s recovery process. The initiative is facilitated by Serve & Connect, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering positive change through police-community partnerships. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $15,000, with over $13,000 already donated as of Monday morning.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support PFC Blankenship and his family throughout his rehabilitation journey.
A Dedicated Officer and Army Lieutenant
Officer Blankenship, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, joined the Mount Pleasant Police Department in March 2022. A graduate of The Citadel, Blankenship recently got married and resides in Mount Pleasant with his wife and two dogs.

Mount Pleasant PD commended Blankenship for his exceptional work ethic and his positive engagement with students while previously working as a security officer at a local school.
The Incident and Arrest
The incident unfolded when Mount Pleasant officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Hungry Neck Boulevard and Venning Road. The suspect fled on foot, prompting a pursuit. It was during this chase that Patrolman First Class Blankenship was struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway.
The individual who fled from the police was later identified as 33-year-old Dayvion Eddings. He was apprehended and charged with second-degree simple possession and resisting arrest. Eddings was granted a $20,000 bond.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks and sacrifices that law enforcement officers like Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship face every day while working to ensure public safety.
