Upon arriving at the scene, a sergeant encountered a man who had fired multiple shots from a pickup truck, according to the police. Efforts were made to stop the fleeing driver, which led to a high-speed chase.

During the pursuit, the suspect intentionally collided with a vehicle belonging to a highway patrolman at the intersection of Welsh and Frankfort roads, as revealed by investigators. Subsequently, as officers exited their vehicle, the suspect opened fire on them.

In response, four officers returned fire, critically injuring the suspect. However, two of the officers sustained minor injuries from graze wounds.

The injured officers, identified as seasoned veterans with 6 and 9 years of service, received medical attention. One officer was treated for a graze wound on the nose, while the other officer suffered a gunshot wound on the ankle along with a graze wound to the head. The latter officer’s condition is stable, and the injuries are not life-threatening, stated Interim Philadelphia Police Commissioner John M. Stanford, Jr.
