Elderly Novato Resident Fatally Injured in Highway 101 Car Crash near Alameda del Prado
NOVATO, CA (December 11, 2023) – A tragic incident on Highway 101 claimed the life of a man in his 70s from Novato on Friday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal accident occurred on December 8, around 5:15 p.m. The southbound Mazda involved in the incident swerved off the freeway and collided with a parked Volkswagen sedan near Alameda del Prado for reasons that are currently under investigation.
The emergency response teams pronounced the driver of the Volkswagen deceased at the accident scene. Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity until the next of kin has been notified.
Meanwhile, the Mazda driver, identified as a man in his 60s from Calistoga, sustained minor injuries.
In order to facilitate the investigation, two traffic lanes were temporarily closed for approximately one hour.
The CHP has ruled out intoxication as a contributing factor in the fatal accident. Further information will be released by the investigating officers as it becomes available.
