Suspect Allegedly Causes Fatal Crash After Fleeing Police in Stolen Vehicle

On December 6, a harrowing incident unfolded in Florida when a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Leosvany Arias Roman, allegedly fled the police in a stolen vehicle. The situation took a tragic turn when Roman crashed head-on into a Dodge Caravan, resulting in the death of three people and injuring two others. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) released a statement providing details of the incident.

According to the HCSO, at approximately 10:20 p.m. local time, Roman was driving a Mustang that had been reported stolen by the Tampa Police Department. Two HCSO deputies attempted to arrest Roman after he parked the stolen vehicle, but instead of surrendering, Roman crashed the Mustang into the sheriff’s department vehicles and fled the scene.

HCSO Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his concern over the incident, stating, “This criminal had no regard for human life. Our deputies, facing danger, had to jump out of the way of a man they feared would run them over to get away. The additional charges he faces will ensure the only road he’s ever on again is the one that leads straight to jail.”

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) provided further details, explaining that after fleeing the initial arrest attempt, Roman collided with a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle on the highway. Tragically, he then crashed head-on into a Dodge Caravan minivan carrying four occupants.

The passengers of the Caravan were from Ohio, while the driver was a local resident and an Uber employee. However, it remains uncertain whether the driver was on duty at the time of the crash. The FHP reported that a 33-year-old driver and a 52-year-old man from Columbiana, Ohio, succumbed to their injuries sustained in the crash. Two other passengers, a 51-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Regrettably, the 51-year-old woman passed away due to her injuries after being admitted to the hospital on the same evening as the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the officer involved in the collision with Roman sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.

Roman now faces multiple charges, including felony murder, vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing and eluding involving death, driving while license suspended involving death, and battery on a law enforcement officer, as stated by the FHP. It remains unclear whether Roman has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.

The investigation into the series of collisions is currently ongoing.
