Heroic Mother killed in Texas Shooting Rampage Saving 18-Month-Old Son

Newly released court documents have unveiled horrifying details of a Texas shooting spree that occurred last week, resulting in the death of six individuals. The suspect, Shane James, a former U.S. Army officer, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. Amidst the tragedy, Ishraq Islam, the husband of one of the victims, described his late wife, 24-year-old Sabrina Rahman, as a “hero” for sacrificing her life to save their 18-month-old son.

Islam recounted the events leading to Rahman’s heroic act, stating that she witnessed the suspect gunning down Emmanuel Pop Ba, a handyman who was assisting them with their move into a new home in Austin. In an attempt to flee, Rahman pushed her baby’s stroller and ran in the opposite direction. The gunman pursued her, but she managed to throw the stroller aside, ensuring her son’s safety. Tragically, she was shot by the assailant and succumbed to her injuries. Islam expressed immense admiration for his wife’s bravery, stating, “She got hit in the head, she collapsed. She’s a hero. She saved my son.”

The devastating loss has left Islam and his family shattered, but he remains determined to honor Rahman’s memory and provide their son with a fulfilling life. Despite their recent move from Vancouver, British Columbia to Austin, where they had built their dream home, their plans for a fresh start have been tragically disrupted.

Authorities have revealed that James, 34, embarked on his shooting spree after allegedly killing his parents, Shane James Sr. and Phyllis James, in Bexar County, near San Antonio. The bodies of his parents were discovered in their home, where he resided with them. James then drove approximately 80 miles to Austin, where the rampage continued.

An affidavit filed in the case provides further details of James’ violent acts. After the initial shootings, he targeted Rahman and Ba, resulting in their tragic deaths. Later, he wounded a cyclist before attempting to break into a residence. A brave detective from the Austin Police Department confronted James in the backyard, leading to a shootout. The detective sustained multiple gunshot wounds before James fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. The high-speed chase came to an end when James crashed into another car. Law enforcement apprehended him and discovered a .45 caliber handgun and ammunition in his possession.

Further investigation revealed that James had a history of encounters with law enforcement. In January 2022, he was arrested for assaulting his parents and sibling, which resulted in misdemeanor charges. His family, believing he suffered from mental health issues, did not consider him a threat at the time. After being released on bail, James removed his ankle monitoring device, prompting a warrant for his arrest.

The tragic events have shed light on the importance of addressing mental health issues and strengthening preventive measures to avoid such devastating incidents. The community mourns the loss of innocent lives and stands united in supporting the victims’ families during this difficult time.
