According to deputies, a distress call was made to the FSCO at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, alerting them of a person who was threatening to shoot guests at the Historic Jordan Springs venue. This individual had been asked to leave the reception due to being excessively intoxicated.

While responding to the call, the situation quickly escalated as reports came in of possible shots being fired at the venue.

The first deputy to arrive at the scene noticed a vehicle leaving the premises and immediately notified other deputies about the suspicious activity.

Subsequently, two deputies discovered a man, identified as 34-year-old Kevin Huff, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

The FSCO revealed that a confrontation had occurred between Huff and the alleged shooter, resulting in the gunshot wound to Huff’s leg.

Meanwhile, another deputy observed the suspect driving recklessly on Jordan Springs Road and initiated a traffic stop, successfully detaining him without any resistance.

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old John Morningstar.

During the traffic stop, deputies noticed that Morningstar had also sustained a gunshot wound in his foot, which they suspect to be self-inflicted.

Both Huff and Morningstar were safely transported to Winchester Medical Center, where they received treatment for their non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon searching Morningstar’s vehicle, deputies discovered multiple firearms, including the weapon used in the shooting, as well as various types of ammunition.

Morningstar now faces multiple charges, including DUI, Malicious Wounding, and two counts of Reckless Handling of a Firearm.
