One Fatality in Fatal Car Crash on Monroe Road in Southeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A tragic car accident on Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte resulted in one fatality on Sunday night, according to authorities. The incident occurred near Mason Wallace Park at approximately 9:30 p.m. The crash involved a 2007 Nissan Murano and a 2022 Mazda CX-5, both sustaining significant damage.

Local law enforcement, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), promptly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of the Nissan’s driver, identified as 43-year-old Hector Domingo Medrano Orellana. Sadly, Orellana was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

CMPD’s preliminary investigation suggests that Orellana was driving south on Monroe Road when he lost control of his vehicle, veering into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with the Mazda. It remains unclear whether impairment played a role in the accident, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.
