Accident – Death – Obituary News : ELMHURST, IL – Two individuals from Chicago were apprehended by officers last week for attempting to break into a business in Elmhurst’s north side, according to authorities.
Around 2 a.m. on Thursday, a security monitoring service alerted the police about two masked men wearing gloves who were attempting to force their way through the windows and door of a business located in the 100 block of West Diversey Avenue. Elmhurst Police Department, in a news release, stated that officers witnessed one of the suspects, identified as 33-year-old Steven Smith, fleeing the scene. However, he was apprehended by the police just one block away.

The second suspect, identified as 28-year-old Deevven Q. Harris, managed to escape in a black Nissan sedan without turning on the lights. This led the officers on a chase, with Harris driving eastbound on Interstate 290 and subsequently exiting west onto St. Charles Road in Elmhurst.
During the pursuit, Elmhurst officers strategically deployed tire deflation devices on St. Charles Road, which successfully disabled the driver’s side tires of the Nissan. Shortly after, the car came to a stop and Harris fled on foot. However, a state trooper and a Bensenville officer managed to apprehend him near the Interstate 290 ramp on York Street.
The Nissan used by the suspects was a rental car, with the rear license plate removed and the front plate bent upwards, according to the police. Smith has been charged with attempted burglary and resisting or obstructing an officer, while Harris faces charges of attempted burglary, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, driving without registration, disobeying a traffic signal, improper lighting, and disobeying a stop sign.
