Bigfork Man Arrested After Shooting Incident in Ferndale

A 49-year-old man from Bigfork, Montana, has been taken into custody following a shooting incident at a residence in Ferndale. The incident, which occurred last night, resulted in the death of one victim and injuries to two others, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

Matthew Vitek, the suspect, has been booked in the Lake County Jail and is facing pending charges of deliberate homicide and attempted deliberate homicide.

The LCSO received a report of a disturbance involving an armed man at a residence on Cayuse Lane in Ferndale at 9:08 p.m. on December 10. One of the victims, who had been shot by Vitek, contacted the authorities to report the incident.

Upon receiving the report, deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive at the scene. They quickly apprehended Vitek and provided first aid to all three victims before emergency medical services arrived. Deputies from the LCSO also responded to the scene.

The victims were immediately transported to a local hospital, where 56-year-old Tammi Jordan of Bigfork was pronounced dead. As of 2 a.m. on December 11, the other two victims were reported to be in stable condition.

The LCSO is currently investigating the case and has decided not to release the identities of the surviving victims at this time.
