The incident took place in the 1300 block of Rayner Street at around 4:30 a.m., prompting a response from Memphis Police officers.

Initially, police had reported a double shooting at the location, but further investigation revealed that only one person, identified as 32-year-old Jasmine Eason, had been shot and killed. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kordelro Harris, was found at the scene with a stab wound.

Harris claimed that two unknown men wearing ski masks had kicked in his bedroom door and demanded money. He alleged that one of the men stabbed him in the hand and shot Eason. Both Eason and Harris were transported to a local hospital, where Eason succumbed to her injuries.

However, a 17-year-old witness contradicted Harris’ story, as did Eason’s 6-year-old and 9-year-old children. Following this, a search warrant was executed at Harris’ home, where police discovered a bloody 9mm handgun and several spent 9mm casings. The handgun was reported stolen in a December 2021 auto burglary, and an AR Diamondback rifle, reported stolen in February 2018, was also found.

In addition to the firearms, a glass jar containing marijuana and a clear baggie containing cocaine were found at the residence. Confronted with the evidence contradicting his initial story, Harris confessed to shooting Eason with the 9mm gun found in his home.

Harris has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intention to manufacture or sell, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of theft of property valued at $1,000-$2,500, and aggravated assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 9 a.m.
