Arrest Made in Texas Cheerleader’s Murder

Police authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the tragic killing of a 16-year-old high school cheerleader in Texas. The lifeless body of Lizbeth Medina was discovered in her bathtub by her mother last week. The Edna Police Department confirmed that the suspect, identified as Rafael Romero, was apprehended in Schulenburg, Texas, approximately an hour away from Edna.

Rafael Romero was taken into custody on Saturday by local police and Texas Rangers. He has been charged with capital murder, a crime that carries the possibility of the death penalty if he is convicted. Currently, Romero is being held at the Jackson County Jail.

Lizbeth Medina, a vibrant cheerleader at Edna High School, had dreams of becoming a nurse, as shared by a family member with NBC News. She had moved to Texas from Grand Island, Nebraska, a year ago. According to information provided on a GoFundMe page created by Medina’s aunt to cover funeral expenses (which has not been independently verified by Scripps News), the young girl was an only child who cherished her close relationship with her grandparents and had several cousins.

On the evening of December 5, authorities were summoned to Cottonwood Apartments, where Lizbeth Medina resided. She was discovered unresponsive and was later declared dead. Family members revealed that she was found in the bathtub, but the exact cause of her death has not yet been disclosed to the public.

At present, the police have not released the age of the suspect or any details regarding his relationship with the victim.
