85-Year-Old Man Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Wife in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has apprehended an 85-year-old man in connection with the tragic killing of his wife in Northwest D.C. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 3:40 p.m. when authorities received a distress call regarding a stabbing at the 1300 block of Corcoran St.

Upon reaching the scene, responding officers discovered a woman inside an apartment with severe injuries. Additionally, a man was found injured within the premises, with indications suggesting that the injuries were self-inflicted, according to the police.

Both the man and woman were swiftly transported to the hospital, where the woman tragically succumbed to her injuries. The MPD has confirmed that the victim, identified as 81-year-old Sharron Hilda Schwartz, was married to the suspect.

Law enforcement officials have taken the suspect, identified as 85-year-old Steven Schwartz from Northwest, D.C., into custody. He has been charged with second-degree murder while armed.
