Man Arrested for Impaired Driving Following ATV Collision in Greenstone, Ontario

GREENSTONE, ON – An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision in Geraldton has resulted in the arrest of an individual on various charges, including impaired operation.

The Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) promptly responded to the incident, highlighting their unwavering dedication to road safety and the enforcement of impaired driving laws.

The incident took place on the evening of December 8, 2023, at a restaurant situated on Third Avenue Northeast in the Town of Geraldton.

According to the Greenstone OPP, the ATV operator was seen driving erratically before colliding with a parked vehicle and subsequently fleeing from the scene.

Shortly after the incident, the Greenstone OPP located the ATV driver through their investigation.

Upon further examination, it was determined that the driver, identified as 35-year-old Thomas Robbins of Geraldton, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Consequently, Robbins was apprehended and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for additional testing.

Robbins now faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act, including operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop after an accident, driving a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, and failing to apply for a permit upon becoming a vehicle owner.

After undergoing standard processing, Robbins was released from custody. His scheduled appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton is set for January 11, 2024.

The OPP strongly emphasizes the significance of road safety and their continuous efforts to remove drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs from the streets. They urge the public to proactively report any suspected cases of impaired driving by dialing 9-1-1, thus contributing to the creation of safer communities throughout the province.
