Woman Raped on Moving Train in Madhya Pradesh: Accused Arrested

BHOPAL: A 30-year-old woman was sexually assaulted aboard a train in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place between the Pakaria and Maihar railway stations within the air-conditioned compartment of an empty special train. Despite the train being in motion, the survivor managed to disembark at Satna railway station, where she immediately reported the incident to the on-duty police.

Law enforcement officials reached the train, which had already resumed its journey, and successfully halted it at the nearest station. However, the accused had barricaded himself inside the compartment. After a struggle lasting over three hours, railway mechanical section workers at Rewa railway station successfully forced open the door of the air-conditioned compartment, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Providing details of the incident, L. P. Kashyap, the incharge of Satna GRP police station, stated, “The survivor had boarded a passenger train at Katni railway station with the intention of traveling to Unchehra railway station in Satna district. At Pakaria railway station, the passenger train stopped, and a special train, which was empty and heading towards Rewa, also came to a halt alongside. The survivor disembarked from her train and entered the air-conditioned coach of the stationary special train to use the restroom. The accused, who was also on the passenger train, followed her and locked the doors. The special train then resumed its journey, and the accused assaulted her between Pakaria and Maihar railway stations.”

The survivor attempted to disembark at Maihar station but was unable to do so. She got off at Satna around 8 pm and immediately informed the police. With the assistance of the station master, the train was halted at the nearby Kaima railway station, and law enforcement officials reached there by road. However, the accused had secured the coach from the inside. The train then reached Rewa, and with the aid of railway mechanical section staff, the door was eventually opened, leading to the arrest of the accused at around 11:30 pm at Rewa railway station.

The accused has been identified as Kamlesh Kushwaha, a 22-year-old resident of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Katni district. He was brought to Satna at around 4 am and then transferred to Katni, where the case is being registered,” Kashyap stated.

The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
