Toronto Man Arrested for Allegedly Scamming Elderly Woman Out of Thousands in Bail Fraud

A Toronto resident has been apprehended by the authorities on charges of defrauding an elderly woman after falsely claiming that her grandson required bail money. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Grenadier Road and Roncesvalles Avenue, prompting an immediate response from the Toronto Police.

According to the police report, the victim received a phone call the day prior from two individuals – one impersonating her grandson and the other posing as a police officer. The fraudulent police officer informed the woman that her grandson urgently needed $7,500 for bail and that a bondsman would arrive at her residence to collect the funds.

Allegedly, the woman was instructed not to inform anyone about the situation to avoid jeopardizing her grandson’s release. Following these instructions, a man arrived at her address later that day and obtained the money without arousing suspicion.

Subsequently, the victim was contacted by the imposter posing as a police officer the next day, demanding an additional bail payment of $7,500. Similar to the previous encounter, the same man was designated to collect the money. However, the woman became suspicious and promptly contacted the authorities. When the man arrived to collect the funds, the police were ready and successfully arrested him.

The suspect, identified as Diego Armando Lillo, has been formally charged with two counts of impersonating a peace officer, two counts of fraud over $7,500, one count of assault with intent to resist arrest, and failure to comply with a release order. The Toronto Police have released a photograph of Lillo, as they believe there may be other victims who have fallen prey to his fraudulent activities, urging them to come forward.
