The Texas Rangers, in collaboration with the Edna police, successfully apprehended Romero in Schulenburg, a town located approximately 75 miles north of Edna. Following his arrest, Romero was immediately transported to the Jackson County Jail. The precise details of the arrest have yet to be disclosed by the authorities.

Medina, who was scheduled to perform with her cheerleading squad at a Christmas parade in Edna on Tuesday, failed to appear, causing immediate concern for her safety. Her mother, Jacqueline Medina, shared her harrowing experience with Houston ABC station KTRK, recounting her desperate search for her daughter, culminating in the heart-wrenching discovery of her lifeless body inside their apartment.

Romero’s capture comes on the heels of the Edna Police Department’s announcement that they were seeking a person of interest and a vehicle in connection with Medina’s brutal murder. The arrest unfolded while classmates and residents of Edna gathered at a candlelight vigil held in Medina’s honor on Saturday evening, outside the Jackson County Courthouse.

Edna Police Chief Rick Boone expressed his condolences to Medina’s grieving family and friends, acknowledging that their support from the community remains vital during this difficult time. “Although Romero is now in custody, we recognize that Lizabeth’s loved ones still require assistance and solace,” Boone stated. “The citizens of Edna can now find solace in knowing that they can sleep in peace.”
