According to a news release by the Northamptonshire Police, Constable Lewis Marks responded to a call regarding a suspected drug deal taking place in August. Upon arriving at the scene, the suspect attempted to escape on a bicycle, taking advantage of the park’s terrain where the officer’s patrol car could not follow.

Footage captured by Marks’ body camera shows the officer swiftly reacting to the situation by borrowing a bicycle from a passerby. With determination in his eyes, Marks chased the suspect across the grassy park and onto the street. In a moment of bravery, the officer intercepted the suspect, colliding with him and successfully taking him down.

After apprehending the suspect, Marks promptly returned the borrowed bicycle to its owner, expressing his gratitude for the crucial assistance provided. “Wouldn’t have caught him without your help. Really appreciate that,” Marks can be heard saying in the video footage.

Upon searching the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sean Prosser, the police discovered a significant amount of cash and illegal drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine. Prosser was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges, to which he pleaded guilty in October.

Last Friday, Prosser received a sentence of three years and eight months in prison, marking a significant victory for law enforcement and the community at large. “This incident was an example of good old-fashioned policing where our officers and members of the public worked together to take down a man whose actions were a blight on the community,” stated Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Beth Warren in the news release.
