NORTHAMPTON, England (CNN) – In a remarkable display of quick thinking and determination, a police officer from Northamptonshire successfully apprehended a suspected drug dealer by commandeering a bicycle from a passerby.

Constable Lewis Marks of the Northamptonshire Police responded to a call in August regarding a suspected drug deal taking place. Upon arriving at the scene, Constable Marks encountered a fleeing suspect who had taken off on a bicycle through a park, inaccessible to his patrol car.

Captured on body camera footage, the resourceful officer decided to seize the opportunity and borrowed a nearby bicycle from a vigilant bystander. Fearlessly, he embarked on a pursuit across the park’s grassy terrain and into the streets, relentlessly chasing the suspect.

Constable Marks demonstrated exceptional skill and determination as he intercepted the fleeing suspect, colliding with him and bringing him down. The swift and decisive action taken by the officer ensured that the suspect could no longer evade justice.

In a heartwarming display of gratitude, Constable Marks promptly returned the borrowed bicycle to its owner, expressing his appreciation for their assistance. He stated in the video, “Wouldn’t have caught him without your help. Really appreciate that.”

The Northamptonshire Police have confirmed that the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sean Prosser, was found in possession of a significant amount of cash and illegal drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine. Prosser was subsequently arrested on multiple charges, to which he pleaded guilty in October.

During the recent court proceedings, Sean Prosser was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison, providing some solace to the affected community. The sentencing serves as a strong message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.

Reflecting on the incident, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Beth Warren expressed her appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the police officers and members of the public in bringing down an individual whose actions had been a detriment to the community. She stated in the news release, “This incident was an example of good old-fashioned policing, where our officers and members of the public worked together to take down a man whose actions were a blight on the community.”
