Police Officer Uses Quick Thinking to Capture Suspected Drug Dealer in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, England – In a remarkable display of quick thinking and resourcefulness, a police officer from Northamptonshire successfully apprehended a suspected drug dealer by commandeering a bicycle from a bystander.

Constable Lewis Marks of the Northamptonshire Police responded to a call in August regarding a suspected drug deal taking place, as stated in a news release. Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to flee on a bicycle, taking advantage of the park’s terrain that was inaccessible to the officer’s patrol car.

Displayed in the body camera footage, Constable Marks swiftly borrowed a bicycle from a passerby and embarked on a daring pursuit of the suspect. He chased the suspect across the grass and into the streets, eventually intercepting and apprehending him by crashing into him.

After successfully capturing the suspect, Constable Marks returned the borrowed bicycle and expressed his gratitude to its owner.

In the video, he said, “I wouldn’t have caught him without your help. I really appreciate that.”

Upon searching the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sean Prosser, the police discovered a significant amount of cash and illegal drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine. Prosser was subsequently arrested on multiple charges, to which he pleaded guilty in October.

Last Friday, Prosser was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison, marking the end of a successful prosecution.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Beth Warren commended the collaborative effort between law enforcement and the public, stating, “This incident exemplifies the effectiveness of traditional policing, where our officers and members of the public worked together to apprehend an individual whose actions were a blight on our community.”
