In a significant development, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai airport apprehended a Nigerian woman who was found in possession of 350 grams of heroin. The seized drugs have an estimated value of ₹2 crores in the international market, according to a report by news agency ANI. The incident took place on December 8 and the woman has been sent to 14 days of Judicial Custody.

The accused, identified as Ms. Victoria Okafor, aged 42, was traveling from Mumbai to Delhi when she was intercepted by the AIU for investigation. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had alerted the authorities about an international passenger, leading to the woman’s detention. As per The Free Press Journal, Ms. Okafor was promised a sum of ₹50,000 for delivering the consignment of heroin.

During the search, the AIU discovered two pouches containing 20 pills concealed inside the woman’s brassiere. Upon examination, it was determined that the white powder within the pills amounted to 350 grams of heroin. The drugs, valued at ₹2 crores, are believed to have been destined for the international black market.

Further investigation revealed that a person named Onye, a resident of Nalasopara, had handed over the pouch of drugs to Ms. Okafor for delivery. The AIU sources also confirmed this information, citing Ms. Okafor’s recorded statement.

This incident comes on the heels of another major drug bust in Mumbai. On December 7, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai police arrested two individuals and seized a substantial quantity of hash oil worth crores of rupees in a raid conducted in suburban Bandra, as reported by news agency PTI. This marks the first time that such a large quantity of hash oil has been seized by the city police.

Hash oil, also known as cannabis oil, is a concentrated extract derived from cannabis plants. It can be consumed through various means, including smoking, vaping, ingestion, or topical application.

In a separate international drug smuggling case, a 34-year-old Indian-origin man was recently sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Wolverhampton Crown Court in the UK. The man, identified as Joshpal Singh Kothiria, was part of a four-member gang involved in the conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis from the Netherlands to the UK and Republic of Ireland. Kothiria’s role as a driver from Wolverhampton was uncovered during an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

These incidents highlight the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the efforts being made by law enforcement agencies to curb this illicit trade. The authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of individuals involved in drug-related activities, both at the domestic and international levels..
