In an effort to enhance the safety of drivers, the Indian government has issued a notification mandating that all trucks manufactured after October 2025 must be equipped with air-conditioned cabins for drivers. The Ministry of Road Transport has made this requirement mandatory for vehicles falling under the N2 and N3 categories. This move aims to improve the working conditions of truck drivers and ensure their comfort and safety while on the road. By implementing this regulation, truck manufacturers will have the opportunity to sell chassis with pre-fitted AC cabins, eliminating the need for separate cabin installations.

Road safety experts have welcomed this new regulation, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the well-being of truck and bus drivers. These individuals play a crucial role in economic activities, and their health and safety should be a top priority. Additionally, a survey conducted by a non-profit organization revealed that many truck drivers admitted to driving while fatigued or sleepy, further underscoring the need for improved working conditions and rest periods for these drivers.

As investigations into the Saharanpur accident continue, it is essential for authorities to identify any potential factors that contributed to the collision. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on India’s roads..
