Heart Attack Victim Dies Following Five-Hour Wait in Hospital: Demands for Justice

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Chandran Subramaniam, a 51-year-old roti canai seller from Sungai Petani, tragically lost his life due to a heart attack after enduring a five-hour wait in the emergency ward without receiving the necessary medical attention. Shedding light on the apparent negligence of the hospital staff, Chandran’s 29-year-old son, Sathia Chandran, shared the distressing account of the incident.

The Heartbreaking Journey of Pleas and Pain

Sathia recounted the harrowing experience his father went through, where despite his repeated pleas for help and the evident distress he was in, the hospital staff insisted on strictly adhering to their queuing system. Chandran, in excruciating pain, clutched his chest and screamed for assistance, but sadly, his desperate cries fell on deaf ears. Adding to the negligence, a doctor initially misdiagnosed Chandran’s condition as gastric trouble, prescribing medication for “angin” (wind) instead of recognizing the life-threatening cardiac condition he was suffering from.

Futile Efforts and Tragic Delay

Sathia, a lorry driver, vividly recalls his desperate attempts to seek urgent medical assistance for his father. However, his efforts were not only dismissed but also met with reprimand when he interrupted a consultation room seeking help. It was only around 5 am when Chandran was finally moved to the red zone, but tragically, it was too late. He was pronounced dead at 6:31 am, leaving the family devastated.

Demanding Justice: A Family’s Battle

Sathia, one of Chandran’s five children, is now determined to seek justice for his father’s untimely and preventable death. The family’s lawyer, Shamsher Singh Thind, has issued a letter of demand to the health ministry, calling for an independent investigation into the incident. Recognizing the gravity of the complaint, the ministry has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, highlighting the urgency of addressing this tragedy.
