Investigation Underway Following Inmate’s death at Kentucky State Penitentiary

EDDYVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has launched an investigation into the untimely demise of Ivan Orantes-Pierce, a 31-year-old inmate from Louisville, at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville. The tragic incident occurred on Friday and has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of inmates within the correctional facility.

According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), authorities were alerted to the situation when a distress call was received from the penitentiary at approximately 5:11 p.m. ET. The caller informed officials that CPR was being administered to Orantes-Pierce. Concerned for his life, Lyon County EMS promptly responded to the call for assistance.

Shortly after their arrival at 5:31 p.m. ET, Lyon County EMS requested the presence of a coroner, indicating the severity of the situation. KSP troopers were then dispatched to the scene to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.

Preliminary findings by the authorities suggest no signs of foul play. However, to ascertain the cause and manner of death definitively, an autopsy has been scheduled for December 10. The investigation remains active and ongoing as the authorities delve deeper into the incident.
