Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon in his apartment on Dec 8, 1980

Startling revelations about the final moments of John Lennon, the iconic musician, have recently come to light. In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Jay Hastings, Lennon’s doorman, has shared a chilling account of the beloved artist’s assassination in 1980. Hastings vividly recalls the traumatic incident as if it occurred only yesterday.

Being present at the Dakota apartment in New York City, Hastings recounts hearing the deafening gunshots at approximately 10:50 p.m. local time. Immediately after the shots rang out, Lennon rushed towards him, exclaiming, “I’m shot, I’m shot!” before hastily making his way to the back office where he ultimately collapsed.

As Hastings entered the back office, he encountered Yoko Ono, Lennon’s wife, who was frantically screaming, “Get an ambulance! Get an ambulance!” Realizing the gravity of the situation, Hastings swiftly dialed 911, while another doorman, Jose, had already alerted the police using a panic button.

However, amidst the chaos, Lennon’s assailant, later identified as Mark David Chapman, remained at large within the premises. Determined to prevent his escape, Hastings seized a billy club from atop a safe and made his way towards Chapman. Upon approaching the gunman, Hastings noticed him engrossed in an unexpected activity – reading a book while facing the wall.

Minutes later, the police arrived, and Hastings, with blood-stained hands and a disheveled appearance, must have appeared slightly unhinged. Nonetheless, he promptly directed the authorities towards Chapman, who was subsequently apprehended and later sentenced to a term of 20 years to life for his heinous crime.

Lennon, on the other hand, was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital within a mere ten minutes of the shooting. Tragically, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead, leaving the world devastated by the loss of this extraordinary talent.
