January 7, 2023

Wallingford, Vermont –

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a 52-year-old Bennington man was apprehended and charged with driving under the influence following a single-vehicle crash. The incident took place on US RT 7 near Hartsboro Road, where emergency services responded to a 2003 Dodge Dakota partially submerged in Otter Creek.

The Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks received the report at approximately 3:01 a.m. and swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The driver, identified as Raymond Scutt, was found to be traveling northbound when his vehicle veered off the road and landed in the water. Troopers immediately noticed signs of impairment upon approaching Scutt.

Fortunately, Scutt sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency medical personnel promptly transported him to Rutland Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Following medical assessment, Scutt was released into the custody of law enforcement officers. He was issued a citation and is expected to appear in court at a later date to address the charges of driving under the influence.

The 2003 Dodge Dakota involved in the incident suffered significant front-end damage due to the impact. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the collision, indicating that the crash was a single-vehicle accident.

Driving under the influence is a serious offense that poses a threat not only to the driver but also to other road users. Incidents like this serve as a reminder of the potential consequences of impaired driving, including injury, property damage, and even loss of life.

The Vermont State Police continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They aim to gather all the necessary evidence to present a comprehensive case against the accused, ensuring that justice is served and public safety is upheld.
