Narayanpur District, Bastar – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Saturday, a man was brutally hacked to death by alleged Maoists, according to a police official. The victim, identified as Komal Manjhi, fell victim to the attack while returning home after performing rituals at a goddess temple in Chhotedongar village, Narayanpur district.

Inspector General of Police, Bastar range, Sunderaj P, revealed that the assailants, who remain unidentified, used an axe to execute the heinous act. The motive behind the shocking murder is believed to be related to Manjhi’s alleged association with a mining company.

The police authorities have recovered a handwritten note, purportedly authored by Maoists, in which they accused Manjhi of acting as a clandestine agent for Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine, earning substantial sums of money through his alleged involvement.

Upon receiving information about the attack, a police team promptly rushed to the scene and transferred Manjhi’s body to a local government hospital for post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations have also revealed that the victim’s uncle had previously received death threats from Maoists, particularly leading up to past elections.

During last month’s assembly elections, both Manjhi and his uncle, along with other individuals residing in remote areas of the district, were relocated to Narayanpur headquarters for their safety. However, following the conclusion of the second phase of voting, the duo chose to return to their village, refusing any further protection offered to them, as stated by a police officer.

This unfortunate incident follows a series of violent attacks on political figures in the region. On November 11, Ratan Dubey, the vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Narayanpur district unit and the area’s assembly convenor, was mercilessly hacked to death in the market at Kaushalnagar village by suspected Maoists. Similarly, on October 20, Birju Taram, a BJP worker, was fatally shot by individuals believed to be affiliated with the Maoist group in Sarkheda village, located in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.

The continuous wave of violence perpetrated by Maoists has raised concerns among local authorities and the general public alike. Efforts to ensure the safety and security of individuals residing in vulnerable areas have been intensified, with authorities urging residents to avail themselves of the protection offered by law enforcement agencies.

As the investigation into Komal Manjhi’s brutal killing continues, the police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to the reign of terror inflicted by Maoist groups in the region..
