The shocking incident occurred on December 8th at 2:50 pm, according to the report. Allegedly, the 55-year-old woman had visited the local police station to seek clarification regarding her passport. It was during this encounter that a police officer, who was standing in close proximity to her, inadvertently discharged his weapon.

The report suggests that the officer responsible for verifying her passport had been persistently pressuring her for a bribe. The family of the victim further alleges that the officer resorted to shooting her following a heated argument. Jeeshan, a relative of the wounded woman, shared, “She went to the police station for an inquiry related to her passport. She had been receiving phone calls demanding money. We are unaware of who shot her or the nature of the demanded payment. There was a disagreement between them.” Subsequently, Ishrat was rushed to a hospital, where her condition has been declared critical.

The officer implicated in the incident has reportedly managed to elude capture. The narrative suggests that the policeman, identified as Manoj Sharma, unintentionally discharged his weapon while preparing it. As a consequence, Sharma has been promptly suspended, and a criminal case has been registered against him.

Kalanidhi Naithani, a senior police officer in the district, was quoted in the news stating, “A criminal case has been filed against Inspector Manoj Sharma for his negligence, and he has been immediately suspended. The medical team is currently attending to the injured woman, and a field unit is scrutinizing the video footage of the incident.” This incident has once again raised concerns regarding police practices and emphasizes the urgent need for enhanced transparency and accountability within the police force.
