Suspect Arrested Following Shooting Incident in Red Bluff

RED BLUFF, Calif. – Law enforcement authorities apprehended a suspect after a man sustained a gunshot wound in the vicinity of the 1400 block of Fourth Street in Red Bluff on Saturday.

According to the Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD), officers promptly responded to the scene where they encountered the suspect, identified as Thomas Portfield, a 59-year-old resident of Red Bluff. Portfield promptly discarded his firearm and surrendered to the authorities.

The victim, who was discovered inside a nearby residence, had suffered an upper body gunshot wound. Both the suspect and the victim were swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention. The current condition of the victim remains undisclosed, as stated by RBPD officials.

Preliminary investigations conducted by RBPD indicate that the suspect and the victim were engaged in a physical altercation concerning a missing motorcycle. It was during this confrontation that Portfield allegedly discharged his weapon, resulting in the victim’s injury.

Authorities seized a revolver handgun and an AK-style rifle as evidence from the scene.

Following his apprehension, Portfield was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Tehama County Jail on a single count of attempted murder.
