Accident – death – Obituary News : Pedestrian Fatally Struck While Crossing Highway 6 in Northwest Harris County
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Tragedy struck on Friday night as a pedestrian lost their life while attempting to cross Highway 6 in northwest Harris County. According to reports from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. in the 8900 block of State Highway 6 North.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the woman was walking in a northbound direction in an area with no designated crosswalk or sufficient lighting. Identified as Lauren Goppert, she made an ill-fated decision to cross the roadway to head southbound, just as a passing vehicle approached.
The driver, in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, made an abrupt lane change but unfortunately collided with Goppert. Skid marks at the scene indicate that the driver applied the brakes upon noticing Goppert, but it was too late to prevent the accident. The driver immediately pulled over and awaited the arrival of law enforcement personnel.
In a twist of events, another vehicle stopped to avoid hitting Goppert and was consequently rear-ended by a third car. Authorities suspect that there may have been a fourth vehicle involved, unknowingly running over Goppert’s body. However, due to the chaotic nature of the incident, it is presumed that the driver of the fourth vehicle mistook the impact for debris.
Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene but, tragically, pronounced Goppert dead. Investigators have determined that the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and displayed no signs of impairment.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division has taken charge of the investigation, conducting a thorough examination of the incident. Currently, no charges have been filed against the driver.
