Investigation Launched into Homicide of Tennessee Nurse Allegedly Pushed by Patient

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – Knoxville police are investigating the death of Janice Allison, a 61-year-old nurse, who tragically lost her life after being allegedly pushed by a patient. The incident occurred on September 23 at East Tennessee Behavioral Health, a mental health provider, where Allison was working at the time. She passed away on October 25, and the Knox County Regional Forensic Center has now confirmed her death as a homicide, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesperson, Scott Erland.

Following the incident, Allison was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the medical efforts, her condition did not improve, and she succumbed to her injuries nearly a month later, leaving the community shocked and devastated.

East Tennessee Behavioral Health, where Allison dedicated her time and expertise, expressed their deep sorrow and condolences to her family and colleagues. They described her as a “wonderful friend” and a dedicated member of their team. In a statement provided to WVLT in October, the health provider emphasized their commitment to patient and employee safety and privacy, and thus refrained from commenting further on the incident.

In a recent statement, East Tennessee Behavioral Health reiterated their condolences to Allison’s loved ones and assured their cooperation with the Knoxville Police Department’s ongoing investigation. The health center understands the significance of a thorough inquiry and is fully supporting the authorities in their pursuit of justice.

The Knoxville Police Department’s homicide unit is working closely with the medical examiner’s office and the Knox County District Attorney’s Office to gather all the necessary evidence. As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with Allison’s tragic death, and the investigation is still ongoing.
