Accident – death – Obituary News : Nagpur: A tragic incident has unfolded at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)-Nagpur, as a final year MBBS student, Pawan Kakade (23), was discovered dead on the railway track near Bothli village in Buti Bori police station limits on Friday afternoon. The police suspect that Pawan died by suicide due to the immense stress caused by upcoming exams. However, no suicide note has been recovered at this time.

According to sources, Pawan left the medical college hostel on Saturday afternoon without informing anyone. It was a railway trackman who first came across Pawan’s lifeless body. Pawan’s Activa scooter was found on the road approximately 100 meters away from the track. Senior PI Bhimaji Patil of Buti Bori police station in Nagpur rural stated, “As per preliminary information, the student was depressed as his viva examination had not gone well a day ago. The police were informed about the suicide around 2 pm. The victim’s cellphone was also damaged during the incident.”

Thanks to an ID card found with the body, the police were able to identify the deceased as Pawan Kakade. “The registration number of the vehicle helped in tracing his address. After cops alerted the family members, they informed his friends who rushed to the spot. No suicide note was found,” Patil added.

Tragically, this marks the sixth suicide by a medical student from Vidarbha this year. Pawan, belonging to the 2019 MBBS batch, resided in boys hostel 4. Sources close to him revealed that he was deeply concerned about the upcoming final-year examinations, specifically the paediatric paper scheduled for Monday. Friends and colleagues described Pawan, who hailed from Washim, as withdrawn and under immense pressure in the days leading up to the incident.

Upon hearing the news, students and faculty members gathered at the medical emergency department where Pawan’s body was taken for post-mortem. The GMCH administration expressed their condolences to the grieving family and assured full cooperation with the police investigation.

While the police have initiated an investigation, the exact cause behind Pawan’s suicide is yet to be determined. Unfortunately, this incident follows a string of five other medical students who chose to end their lives earlier this year. The names of the other students are Sankshi Gaikwad (21), Kalyani Shiwankar (22), Bhavesh Tejusingh Rathod (19), Bhushan Vilas Wadhonkar (23), and Riddhi Omprakash Paliwal (20).
