Kentucky State Police Investigate Inmate Death at Kentucky State Penitentiary
EDDYVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police have launched an investigation into the untimely demise of a prisoner at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville.

On December 8, at approximately 4:11 p.m., KSP Post 1 received an urgent call from the Kentucky State Penitentiary reporting that they were conducting CPR on an inmate and requested immediate medical assistance.
Responding promptly, the Lyon County EMS team arrived at the correctional facility at around 4:31 p.m. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the EMS team requested the presence of the coroner. Simultaneously, troopers from the Kentucky State Police also rushed to the scene to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.
The deceased inmate has been identified as 31-year-old Ivan Orantes-Pierce from Louisville. At this stage, the authorities have not discovered any evidence suggesting foul play in connection with his demise.
To determine the cause of death definitively, an autopsy has been scheduled for December 10.
