Accident – death – Obituary News : New details emerge in fatal pedestrian accident in Oceanside, Hempstead man identified
OCEANSIDE, NY – Tragedy struck early Saturday morning when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Merrick Road in Oceanside. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on December 9 and has left the community in shock.
According to the Nassau County Police, the victim, identified as Adrian Wilburne, a 53-year-old resident of Hempstead, was hit by a 2020 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on Merrick Road, near Oceanside Road. Despite immediate medical attention, Wilburne suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:09 a.m. by a Nassau County Police Medic.
The driver of the Honda Accord, whose identity has not been released, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. It is believed that the driver did not have any intent to harm the pedestrian.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the accident. Officials will examine various factors such as the speed of the vehicle, road conditions, and whether any traffic violations were involved.
