Accident – death – Obituary News : FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – A 21-year-old man from Fond du Lac was apprehended after a brief pursuit that originated in the City of Fond du Lac. The incident occurred on Friday, December 8, at approximately 5:00 p.m., when an officer from the City of Fond du Lac Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop on 4th Street near Main Street. Following a registration check, it was discovered that the registered owner of the vehicle had an outstanding statewide warrant. However, instead of cooperating, the driver decided to flee the scene, prompting a short chase that was swiftly brought to a halt.
Not long after the initial pursuit was terminated, a Deputy from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspect driving recklessly and at high speeds. The Deputy encountered the suspect on Martin Avenue near 11th Street in the City of Fond du Lac and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver refused to comply, leading to a second pursuit.

According to authorities, the suspect continued south on Martin Avenue, eventually turning onto Highway 151 southbound and merging onto Interstate 41 northbound. As the chase progressed, the suspect maintained a dangerously high rate of speed, particularly as he approached Johnson Street. In an effort to immobilize the vehicle, a Fond du Lac Officer deployed a tire deflation device, but unfortunately, the attempt proved unsuccessful.
The pursuit persisted on Interstate 41 until heavy traffic conditions made it impractical to continue the chase. Consequently, law enforcement officers decided to call off the pursuit once again. However, at this point, the suspect’s vehicle began to slow down, and two individuals exited the rolling vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle veered into a marshy area along Interstate 41, eventually coming to a stop.
To ensure the suspects could not evade capture, multiple law enforcement departments established a perimeter and initiated a K9 Track. This collaborative effort included Fond du Lac County Deputies, Troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Officers from the City of Fond du Lac Police Department. Both Sheriff K9 Rip and Fond du Lac Police K9 Jesus were present at the scene and successfully assisted in apprehending both suspects without any incident.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from Fond du Lac, was subsequently booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on a range of charges. These charges include two counts of Felony Operator Fleeing or Eluding an Officer, First Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Second Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, and Threats to Law Enforcement. Furthermore, the driver was already out on bail for domestic-related charges in Fond du Lac County, with bond conditions explicitly forbidding contact with the 19-year-old female passenger. Additionally, the driver received several traffic citations related to the pursuit.

On the other hand, the passenger, a 19-year-old woman also from Fond du Lac, was released with charges of Resisting/Obstructing an Officer and referred to the District Attorney’s Office for further proceedings.
Both suspects underwent examination for possible injuries resulting from the incident. It was determined that the passenger sustained minor injuries while exiting the moving vehicle.
Regrettably, two unrelated vehicles suffered damage due to the use of the tire deflation device in an attempt to stop the suspect’s vehicle. However, no law enforcement vehicles were harmed during the pursuit. Authorities estimate that the chase covered a distance of approximately 14 miles.
During this incident, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received valuable assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, and the Village of North Fond du Lac EMS.
