Accident – Death – Obituary News : North-west Delhi police have arrested two individuals on charges of attempting to extort money from a 19-year-old woman by threatening to expose her private images on social media. The suspects, identified as Ansh Sharma, a 19-year-old former partner of the victim, and Govind Sharma, a 20-year-old employee at a furniture shop, were apprehended in Ashok Vihar on December 6.

Authorities revealed that the motive behind the extortion plot was to fund Ansh Sharma’s desire to purchase imported protein powder and other bodybuilding supplements. Ansh, who recently joined a gym and aspired to pursue bodybuilding professionally, had been advised to use expensive muscle-boosting supplements to enhance his training. However, lacking the necessary funds, Ansh and his friend hatched a plan to extort money from the victim, the police said.

To carry out their scheme, Ansh created an anonymous social media account to threaten the young woman. DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena stated, “They threatened to make her private photographs public if she didn’t pay them ₹1 lakh,” highlighting the severity of the accusations against the suspects.

In addition to targeting the woman, the accused also sent threatening text messages to her father, leveraging her cell phone to intimidate him. The victim, a resident of Burari, lodged a complaint with the police approximately two weeks ago, prompting an investigation into the matter.

During interrogation, Ansh confessed that he and the complainant had exchanged passwords for their respective social media accounts during a brief relationship in 2020. The investigative team discovered that the location from which the fake social media account was created was in Ashok Vihar, leading to the initial arrest of Govind Sharma. Subsequently, Govind disclosed Ansh’s involvement in the extortion scheme.

Further details emerged as Ansh revealed that he had known the complainant since she was in Class 6, establishing a connection rooted in their common friends. The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
